The 38th Time’s the Charm

I am back.
The number of times I have started working on and revamping this site over the past few years is honestly too funny to count at this point.
I think about it at least once a quarter. I get inspired over a weekend, make a bunch of edits and try to come up with something better than before.
Then I get frustrated with the technical backend and log off without making much progress.
Looking back, I think I spent way too much time focused on the branding, the message, the layout and how everything should look to you, the viewer.
I hyperfocused so much on making it appear perfect that I never really focused on the part that actually mattered.
The content.
One thing I have learned about myself is that I am always going to want to make improvements.
I am not great at settling for what I know now or assuming the way I approach something today is the best way to do it. There could always be a better approach, a more efficient way or something I have not learned yet that solves the headache I keep running into.
That is probably not changing anytime soon.
But at some point, you have to stop tweaking and start doing the work.
Over the past decade, I have picked up a few battle scars and hopefully some wisdom through my professional and personal life.
Some came from genuinely difficult situations that led to long nights. Others came from great leaders, mentors and exciting projects that had never been done before.
And some came from simply getting things wrong and learning the hard way.
I wanted a place to capture those lessons.
A place to write through what I am learning, put my own thoughts around it and hopefully share something useful with other curious people along the way.
And if I am being honest, this is also partly for me.
Writing helps me slow down and actually process what I have learned instead of letting it become another idea I heard once and forgot a week later.
At some point, you subscribed to this email when I first launched all of this and was probably very inspired for about two weeks.
So if you are still here, thank you.
These first few posts will probably be a little messy while I figure out what this professional voice looks like and what this turns into.
I have spent a lot of time thinking about where I want my career to go. A few years ago, I had this dream that someday I would be doing more consulting and advisory work with really smart people working through hard problems.
I probably thought that version of my career was much farther away.
But over the past year, I have found myself in more and more rooms where I get to do some version of that work.
Talking with leaders. Working through problems. Asking questions. Helping people think through decisions that actually matter.
And slowly realizing that maybe I do have something useful to bring into those rooms.
So this is part of that journey too.
A place to keep learning in public and see where it goes.
Hopefully this is not hello and goodbye for another year.
Maybe this time we build a little consistency.
The 38th time’s the charm.
Hope you stay tuned.
